About NEBOSH

NEBOSH (The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) was formed in 1979 as an independent examining board and awarding body with charitable status. We offer a comprehensive range of globally-recognised, vocationally-related qualifications designed to meet the health, safety, environmental and risk management needs of all places of work in both the private and public sectors.

Courses leading to NEBOSH qualifications attract around 30,000 candidates annually and are offered by over 400 course providers in 80 countries around the world. Our qualifications are recognised by the relevant professional membership bodies including the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM).

NEBOSH examinations and assessments are set by its professionally qualified staff assisted by external examiners; most of whom are Chartered Safety and Health Practitioners operating within industry, the public sector or in enforcement.

Our technical standards are overseen by a Qualification and Technical Council with representatives drawn from national institutions.

In October 2000, NEBOSH became the first health and safety awarding body to be accredited by the UK regulatory authorities: The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) in England, the Department for Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills (DCELLS) in Wales and the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) in Northern Ireland.

In addition, NEBOSH maintains Investors in People (IIP) status and is also an ISO9001:2000 registered organisation.

Qualifications

Nearly 30,000 people take a NEBOSH qualification every year. Our qualifications are globally recognised and taken by people working in all types of industries, as well as national and local government organisations.

What qualifications do I take?

NEBOSH's Certificate-level qualifications give a good foundation in health and safety for managers, supervisors and staff with health and safety among their day to day responsibilities. No previous knowledge of health and safety is required. They are also widely taken as a first step towards a career in heath and safety and are accepted by IOSH – the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health – in meeting the academic requirements of Technician Membership of IOSH (Tech IOSH).

NEBOSH’s National Diploma is the qualification for professional health and safety advisors. The National Diploma equips holders for a career in this demanding rewarding field. The Diploma is accepted by IOSH in meeting the academic requirements for the admission to Chartered Membership, and allows holders to use the designatory letters DIPNEBOSH after their name.

NEBOSH’s Specialist Diploma in Environmental Management is intended for practitioners who have environmental responsibilities. Holder of the Environmental Diploma may use the designatory letters SPDIPEM after their name

Introduction

The NEBOSH International General Certificate has been designed for managers, supervisors, worker representatives and others who require a basic knowledge and understanding of health and safety principles and practices. It provides an appropriate breadth of knowledge for non-specialists in occupational health and safety to enable them to discharge more effectively their organizational duties or functions with respect to workplace health and safety. Candidates are likely to be employees of large organizations operating outside the UK, or of multinational companies already working to international standards but needing to adapt these to accord with local needs and practice.

Managers, supervisors, worker representatives and others who require a knowledge and understanding of health and safety principles and practices

The Certificate provides a sound basis for evaluating risks and hazards in any country, in any business. The NEBOSH International General Certificate is also suitable for those embarking on a career in health and safety, providing a valuable foundation for further professional study.

Course Objective:





The NEBOSH International General Certificate covers a range of workplace hazards and methods of control. It includes international standards for safety and health management including International Labor Organization codes of practice. The National General Certificate is the most widely held health and

NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management

The NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate is a qualification for those with fire safety responsibilities in the workplace. It was launched in 2005 and is already established as a popular qualification with over 50 providers offering courses in the UK and abroad, and over 500 candidates having already achieved the qualification.

What kind of people take the NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate?

Managers and supervisory staff who need to ensure that their organisation meets its responsibilities under fire safety legislation. Courses leading to this qualification should equip holders to carry out fire risk assessments of most low risk workplaces and identify the range of fire protective and preventative measures required. It is therefore also suitable for people moving into fire safety adviser roles.

NEBOSH Diploma in Environmental Management (Level 6)


The NEBOSH Diploma in Environmental Management is designed for individuals with responsibilities for the management of environmental risk in relation to the damage caused by work activities. It will be invaluable for those aiming to develop and implement effective environmental management systems within their organisations. Since its launch in 1992, over 1300 candidates have achieved the Environmental Diploma.

What kind of people take the NEBOSH Diploma in Environmental Management?

This Environmental Diploma is intended for safety professionals and managers who are taking on environmental responsibilities. A background knowledge of health and safety is recommended.

Is this qualification recognised?
Holders of this qualification may use the designatory letters EnvDipNEBOSH after their name. IOSH CPD Participants may allocate CPD credits for attendance at this course.

In addition holders of the Environmental Diploma are eligible for Associate Membership of IIRSM, and those achieving the qualification from February 2008 onward are eligible for Associate Membership of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA).
